Billings Faculty Member Honored with Community Award

Congratulations to Billings faculty member Carolyn Wenger for her selection as a recipient in the 2008 Salute to Women, sponsored by the Billings YWCA. This is a prestigious award in the Billings community. The Salute to Women nomination criteria say: “A Salute Honoree is a woman who has contributed significantly to her area of interest, her profession, or the community. She is a woman with courage, creativity, competence, originality, and perseverance.” Carolyn has made many contributions to this community, but one of the highlights and themes of her letters of nomination included the fact that 20 years ago (well ahead of the homeless care curve), Carolyn started a clinic for homeless individuals, staffed by senior community health nursing students. Carolyn has kept that clinic in operation all these years, and it remains a valued clinical experience for students, a valuable tool for teaching social justice, and a valuable mechanism of providing health care to a marginalized population.

Carolyn will be presented her award at an annual fundraising banquet on Thursday, April 24th.
