SCHEDULE FOR GRADUATE COURSE INTENSIVE MEETINGS (Fall 2008)
Intensives Schedule
Definitions for Flexible Scheduling:
Flexible Scheduling: A schedule for students
in which they do not need to attend weekly classes, do not need to travel to
Bozeman more than once a year (Fall semester face-to-face intensive, including
orientation), and do not need to travel to their local campus more than 1-2
times a semester (once midway through the Fall semester for a polycom intensive;
and twice in the Spring semester for polycom intensives). In addition
to these limited face-to-face and polycom intensives, courses are also scheduled
for two teleconferences (webinars) each semester for a total of four synchronous
class meeting times each semester. All courses are anchored in WebCT
for a variety of asynchronous activities throughout the semester to complete
the required theory hours for each course.
Synchronous: These are designated times during a
semester that all of the class members meet together. Examples of synchronous
classes are face-to-face, polycom, and teleconference (webinar) intensives.
Asynchronous: These are times during a semester
that individual students log on to the WebCT component of the course (at their
convenience) to participate in class discussions, submit assignments, take
quizzes or exams, complete content modules, or other similar activities.
Intensives: These classes will be face-to-face (beginning
of Fall semester), polycom (mid-way through Fall semester and beginning of
and mid-way through Spring semester), and webinars (teleconferences). Intensives
are longer than the usual hours that a class would meet if meeting weekly.
Webinars/Teleconference: These are a combination
of teleconference, where the students are at home (or local campus if living
in the city limits) dialing in to the teleconference line at a specified time,
and either have their computer on with the Power Point slides/presentation
up or they have previously downloaded them and/or printed them out so they
can follow along with the faculty member who is meeting with them at that specified
time.
