Faculty Salary Data

Oklahoma State University Survey

Data Collected Fall 1997

The Faculty Salary Survey by Rank and Discipline is a project instituted in 1974 by Oklahoma State University. Invitation to participate in the 1997-98 survey was extended to 93 institutions that belong to the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges (NASULGC) and also offer least five different Ph.D. programs. This year 84 institutions submitted data in time to be included in the survey, and MSU-Bozeman was one of the participants.

Institutions are requested to submit salary data by rank and discipline for each academic department. Departments are coded according to the Classification of Instructional Programs (CIP) developed by the National Center for Education Statistics. In cases where MSU-Bozeman's departments represent combined disciplines, we report by discipline.

The Salary Review Committee at MSU-Bozeman uses salary data aggregated at the national level to make rough market comparisons by rank and discipline. The national average salaries by rank and discipline with the number of faculty in each reporting cohort are listed below. The complete survey report is available from the Office of Institutional Research in the Provost's Office. Please contact Cel Johnson with any questions at 994-4390 or cel@montana.edu.
