About

The ASMSU Outdoor Recreation Program operates throughout the year and affords a compliment of services including equipment rental, group outings, instructional classes, resource center, bicycle & ski workshop and other activities.

The Equipment Rental Service maintains a large inventory of items which are available for use by students, faculty, staff, families and other MSU affiliates. Equipment such as rafts, canoes, kayaks, tents, sleeping bags, backpacks, nordic skis, snowshoes, bicycles and other gear may be secured by persons with a valid MSU ID.

A variety of Group Outings are offered which accommodate many interests and skill levels. Activities include hiking, camping, backpacking, rafting, canoeing, kayaking, nordic skiing, snowshoeing, wildlife viewing and other pursuits. Destinations range from local recreation areas to Yellowstone, Glacier and Grand Teton National parks, as well as extended trips to the Canadian Rockies, Alaska, Mexico, Pacific Coast and the Southwest. Nominal fees are charged to defray direct operating expenses associated with transportation, group equipment, organization and coordination.

Seminars and non-credit classes are offereded throughout the year. Areas of instruction include avalanche awareness, kayaking, wilderness 1st aid and other outdoor oriented subjects.

Through the Resource Center an assortment of materials are available which pertain to outdoor recreational opportunities. Maps, trail guides, magazines, catalogs and other materials make the Resource Center a clearinghouse of information. A bulletin board is maintained for promotion of upcoming activities, equipment exchange, services and "common adventurer" outings.

The Bicycle & Ski Workshop provides the opportunity for individuals to maintain and repair personal equipment. Several options are available including "Do It Yourself", "Technician Assistance" or "Drop Off Service". A limited supply of parts is also stocked for resale.
