Robert has used precision agriculture technology for 4 of his 40 years in farming and ranching. He raises rangeland cattle, grass, and both dryland and center-pivot hay, and utilizes GPS/GIS equipment for spot, field and aerial spraying as well as general field mapping. Arcview software is important for his mapping and spraying needs, and satellite imagery has prompted him to initiate a brush control program. "I can return annually to the same plants to reapply if necessary," Robert says. "This would be virtually impossible without the technology."
Robert would like to help others who are new to GPS mapping and remote sensing, and advises that they "spend some time with someone who is using the technology you want to try. Most of the producers using precision agriculture are more than willing to share their experience."
