Parent/Family Association Update

Greetings Parents!

We hope some of you were able to join us for the Parent & Family Weekend in October. The event was a great success and we are currently in the process of utilizing your feedback to improve the experience of the weekend. We will be announcing our 2012 event dates next spring!

At this point in the semester, your student should have met with his or her academic advisor. If your student is not sure whom they should speak with, they can access a list of the first points of contact for their major here.

If your student is considering changing a major or adding a minor, our University Studies Academic Center is one of the best resources on campus.

After students speak with their advisor, they will want to register for courses electronically. The Registration Schedule can be found here. By Friday, November 18th, all currently registered students should be eligible to register for spring. Classes start Wednesday, January 11th for Spring 2011.

The last day to drop a class is November 18th, 2011 which is only a few short weeks prior to Finals Week, December 12–16, 2011. Dropping a class may have both positive and negative implications on GPA, academic standing, financial aid, and residence hall eligibility. If your student has questions about the pros and cons of dropping a course, they are welcome to talk with our office by calling (406) 994–2826 and speaking with a Dean.

At the end of this week, Bozeman will be hosting the annual Cat/Griz football game. The “Brawl of the Wild” is one of the oldest rivalries in the nation, starting in 1897! Heck, there’s even a Wikipedia page on it, so educate yourself. This is always a fun event for our students and if you are near one of our 80 satellite parties hosted by MSU families around the nation, you can throw on your Cat gear and catch the game with other fans.

This information and more can all be accessed at our Parent/Family homepage: http://www.montana.edu/parents/

Lastly, we have created a new email account dedicated solely for the purpose of responding to parents concerns and questions. If you do have a concern or question about your student or MSU, or just want to drop us a line, please do so at pfa@montana.edu. You may also contact us on our PFA hotline (406) 994-7359.

Thank you for partnering with us in your student’s collegiate journey!

Sincerely,

Erika Swanson
PFA Coordinator

Membership in the Student Alumni Association will help your student network with other student leaders at MSU while making invaluable connections with MSU faculty and administrators. Plus, membership in SAA will gain your student invitations to exclusive special events during the spring semester of their senior year. Scholarship Applications For 2012-2013
While a number of scholarships are available from third-parties online, in your town, and at state levels, we recommend that students consider applying for scholarships in their home department. These scholarships are generally due in January or February and usually require Fall 2011 grades. Even if your student does not have a 4.0 GPA, is not a senior, or even declared in a degree program, he or she may still be eligible for funding! Your dollars from PFA Fundraising efforts — both our weekend and the phone-a-thon — are routed through each of the colleges on campus.

View our Scholarship Application guide for more information.
