Parent/Family Association Update

Happy New Year, MSU Families!

We hope that your students are back on campus and settling into their spring semesters. In this newsletter we've provided you with important dates, important new policies, and several opportunities for your students to get involved. We also strongly encourage our students and families to sign up for our MSU Alert text messaging system mentioned below. You can register for the system online here or by texting 69310 to "msu alert" today.

Several parents have contacted us and asked about President's and Dean's Lists for previous semesters. These lists are for full time students who have achieved a 4.0 and 3.5 GPA, respectively and can be found here. Congratulation to all of our students on these lists!

Most importantly, a HUGE thank you to all of our very generous donations to the Parent & Family Association through our phone-a-thon. We appreciate the financial help that parents and families have provided us over the years. These funds allow us to staff our phones, answer your emails, provide these news letters, and create programming for our families so that you can better support your Bobcats! If you did not donate and are interested, please contact our office; every little bit helps tremendously.

Parent & Family Weekend dates have been announced:
October 12 - 14, 2012!
More information to follow later this year.

As always, contact us if we can help in any way.

Go Cats!

Parent & Family Association Coordinator

City Of Bozeman Cell Phone Ban Has Begun
As of Tuesday, Jan. 17, Bozeman Municipal Code prohibits the use of hand held electronic communication devices, such as cellular telephones, navigational systems, or other two-way communication devices, while driving a motor vehicle or bicycle on a public street within the city limits of Bozeman.

Essentially, this ordinance is intended to prohibit a driver from holding one of these communication devices in their hand or up to their ear while driving a motor vehicle or bicycle. The use of hands free electronic communication devices, such as a Bluetooth enabled headset or visor communication device, are allowed to be used by drivers.

Visit the City of Bozeman's website for more information and make sure your student is aware of the new policy!

Spring Break Volunteering Creates Lifelong Friendships & Memories

Registration begins January 24th at 7:30am in SUB 286!

Each year, MSU's Office for Community Involvement organizes several service trips over spring break. The mission and purpose of the BreaksAway program is to cultivate in MSU students a spirit of community involvement and to nurture service leaders who will give back to our state, nation, and the world. MSU students work together with communities around the U.S. to promote life-long community involvement and critical thinking about our societal challenges and the roles each one of us can play in addressing those challenges.

On MSU BreaksAway trips, students volunteer their time to meet community needs. The communities that host MSU BreaksAway groups may be as far away as another country or within Montana. Communities see tangible results from the MSU student’s projects, while students gain new skills, perspectives and relationships. Trips are organized by the Office for Community Involvement (OCI) and are led by two MSU student Site Leaders.

Find out more at the Office for Community Involvement's webpage!

Sign Up For MSU Alert Today!
If you or your student have not already signed up for our MSU alert text messaging system, please take a moment to do so. This system is used very rarely, in case of emergency. For current students, text messages will also be accompanied with emails and other messaging on campus.

The system delivers emergency messages through text messaging to capable cellular phones. Enrollment into the MSU Alert system is free and voluntary. Enrollment into the system is easy and takes only a few minutes. Tests are expected to be conducted once a year and you will not receive spam through the MSU Alert system.

To sign up, text 69310 to "msu alert" or register online here.
