Student Security

Job Description

Student Security Team members are a visible security presence on campus and work special events to ensure the safety and welfare of the MSU community and all visitors to MSU. This position requires frequent time spent outdoors, often in inclement weather. Student Security members will, at all times, perform their duties exercising considerable judgment, tact, and integrity in the completion of their responsibilities. Student Security members will be under the direct supervision of a Police Officer or the Student Security Team Supervisor. Shifts are primarily available during evening hours, unless otherwise specified. Student Security Team members' duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Foot patrol of campus to observe and deter crime. 
  • Advise on-duty Police Officers of any criminal activity. 
  • Provide requested safety escorts to people walking across campus. 
  • Check for unsecured buildings. 
  • Patrol buildings that are open during evening hours.

Parking Enforcement

Job Description

Student Parking Enforcement members are responsible for enforcing parking rules and regulations on campus. This position is located almost entirely outdoors, often in inclement weather. Student Parking Enforcement members are responsible for conducting themselves in a courteous and professional manner while interacting with the public. Student Parking Enforcement members will be under the direct supervision of the Parking Enforcement Supervisor. Shifts are primarily available during daytime hours, Monday through Friday, unless otherwise specified. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Foot patrol of parking areas on campus.
  • Issue parking citations to vehicles that are incorrectly parked.
  • Answer questions regarding parking rules and regulations.

Front Counter Assistant

Job Description

Front Counter Assistants handle customer service, public relations, and parking information at the front counter of the MSU Police Department.  Persons in this position will assist Communications Safety Officers with the day-to-day operations of selling parking permits, handling parking citations, general office duties and assisting customers with general campus information. Front Counter Assistants will be under the direct supervision of the Communications Safety Officer Supervisor. Shifts are primarily available during daytime hours, Monday through Friday, unless otherwise specified. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Answer questions regarding parking rules and regulations.
  • Issue parking hangtags and receive payments for citations.
  • Answer questions regarding the campus and city.
  • Daily balancing of cash drawer.
  • Perform general office duties: Copying, filing, faxing.

Qualifications for All Positions:

  • Must be an active degree-seeking student at MSU-Bozeman
  • Must maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check (Note: Students with alcohol or drug or violent crime related convictions will not be considered for employment)
  • Must be mature, maintain a professional appearance, and must have the ability to meet and deal with the public professionally
