To MSU Students, Faculty and Staff
I am writing to make everyone aware of the efforts we are making to provide assistance to those affected by the destruction of Hurricane Katrina.
I am sure we all share a grave sense of sadness over the lives lost and destroyed by this disaster. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of those affected by this storm and its aftermath.
The university is issuing a press release today announcing that we will work with any students who have been displaced by the storm to transfer their studies to MSU until their campuses can accept them again. We are also offering to help these students with housing and financial aid.
In addition, we are extending our assistance to any faculty from those affected campuses who could temporarily relocate their academic work to MSU.
Any specific requests for assistance can be directed to the Office of Communications and Public Affairs, 994 4571. Requests will be referred to the appropriate office.
To those MSU students who are from the affected areas, we will work with you on your academic status if you plan to return home to assist your family members.
If MSU students are called up by the National Guard for duty in the Gulf Coast area, they can receive a tuition refund and should work with Courtney Stryker, Dean of Students, in the Strand Union Building.
I have seen the terrific response of this community to other tragedies and encourage you to consider how you might be able to help individuals and families affected by this storm. I have listed below several web sites which are organizing relief efforts:

I know there are members of our own campus community who have friends and family members in the stricken areas. I would like to personally extend my heartfelt sympathies to anyone who has been impacted by this national disaster.
