A letter from President Gamble to the President of Northern Illinois University
February 18, 2008
Northern Illinois University
President John C. Peters
DeKalb, Il 60115
Dear President Peters,
Words cannot express the sorrow and shock that all of us at Montana State University feel at the news of the tragedy on your campus last week. During events such as this, higher education becomes a family. I hope you know that our family stands ready to assist in any way it can.
You have been touched by an act of violence of such magnitude that the fabric of your university will be indelibly changed. The lives of five bright young students have been cut short, others are recovering from injuries and many are dealing with the horror of witnessing such a random act of terror. All in your community will forever carry the grief that comes with knowing such a tragedy has occurred on a campus they know as home.
I am sure the traditions of NIU and the Husky spirit are strong and will be extremely important to you as you begin to move away from this tragedy. Montana State University joins universities across the nation in joining ranks behind you to share strength, support and hope. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the deceased and the injured. We know the lives lost on February 14th will be remembered and revered.
Sincerely,
Geoff Gamble
President
Montana State University
