Faculty Annual Reviews

Annual Review Process - Calendar Year 2013

Faculty are reviewed in the spring of each academic year by their supervisor, generally the department head. The reviews are evaluated by the Dean of the College and delivered to the Office of the Provost by April 10, 2014.

Tenure-Track Faculty:  Please review the Interim Faculty Policies (Section 300.3) for specific information on the review process for tenure-track faculty.  The review time period is the previous calendar year.  Department Heads and Deans will use the information entered in Activity Insight to evaluate faculty members.  Note the process for a faculty response to a disagreement about an annual review or rating and accommodate the appeal process in the review timeframe.  The deadline for original hard copies of the faculty review cards to be turned in to the Office of the Provost is 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2014.  Please use a full sheet of regular copy paper for each faculty review card.  Do not use card stock.

Non Tenure-Track Faculty:  Please review NTT CBA Section 8.08 (http://www.montana.edu/provost/agreements/nontenure/art8.html#8.08) for specific information on the review process for non-tenure-track faculty.  The review time period is the previous calendar year.  All NTT faculty in the bargaining unit who are employed on multiyear contracts or who are in their third or subsequent year of continuous employment will be evaluated annually. All NTT faculty who are reviewed will receive a written evaluation.  Department Heads and Deans will use the information entered in Activity Insight to evaluate faculty members.  The same review card will be used for non-tenure-track faculty.  The deadline for original hard copies of the faculty review cards to be turned in to the Office of the Provost is 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2014.  Please use a full sheet of regular copy paper for each faculty review card.  Do not use card stock.

Faculty Review CardsAttached is an electronic copy of the faculty review card for calendar year 2013.  This revised version now includes a section for the faculty member's assignment during the review period.  The PDF format is interactive and you can type in department name and faculty name.  The performance ratings are also clickable.  We hope that using the electronic format might make things a little easier in the departments.  The “cards” will still need to be printed and signed by the Dean, Department Head and faculty member.  Please use a full sheet of regular copy paper for each faculty review card.  Do not use card stock.  The original hard copy must be turned in to the Office of the Provost is 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2014.

Activity Insight:  MSU has a new secure, online database for faculty to use to report their activities and productivity to be used in their annual review process.  See more information about Activity Insight.

ADVANCE data collection:  The ADVANCE grant team continues to collect data across campus to inform MSU leadership about the work environment on campus as it relates to the experience of women faculty.  As part of this effort, the ADVANCE team is asking that all department complete a short worksheet at the time of annual reviews.  Please answer the five questions at the top of the worksheet on a separate document and turn both documents (answers and worksheet) into your Dean by the deadline set by the Dean.  Deans should review all departmental submissions and provide them to the Office of the Provost by 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2014 with the faculty review cards.  ADVANCE will be hosting a panel discussion to provide an opportunity for Department Heads to learn, share and consider how to think about diversity and inclusion in the annual departmental write-ups.  More information about this session will be coming soon.  The documents will be reviewed by a subcommittee of the President's Commission on the Status of University Women, which will offer feedback. A summary of last year's self-studies can be found on the ADVANCE website.
