The Opportunity

Montana State University (MSU) Bozeman seeks applications and nominations for the position of Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA).

MSU is the State's land-grant university and ranked by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching among the top 96 research universities in the nation (Research Universities, very high research activity). MSU Bozeman is the flagship campus for the four campuses of Montana State University. The University has seven academic colleges, including Agriculture; Arts and Architecture; Business; Education, Health and Human Development; Engineering; Letters and Science; and Nursing.

The Provost & VPAA serves as the chief academic officer of MSU Bozeman and administrator-in-charge during a presidential absence. The Provost & VPAA oversees the educational program and budget, academic policy, academic appointments, and the generation of teaching, research, and creative activity in a vibrant campus community that emphasizes active learning, strong student/faculty engagement, and effective community engagement.

The Provost & VPAA reports to the President of the four-campus University system. Reporting to the Provost & VPAA are the Senior Vice Provost, Vice Provost & Director of Extension, Vice Provost for Graduate Education, Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, Vice Provost for International Education, deans of the seven academic colleges, Dean of Libraries, Dean & Director of the Museum of the Rockies, Executive Director of Health Sciences and Interim Director of the WWAMI (Washington Wyoming Alaska Montana Idaho) Medical Program, Budget/Finance Director, Executive Director of the Big Sky Institute and the Assistant to the Provost & VPAA. The Provost & VPAA will be expected to work closely with counterparts at the other campuses of the University to advance system-wide goals and objectives and realize mutual benefits that can grow out of collaboration and coordination.
