In order to register, you must have your “Alternate PIN” (often referred to as the “Advisor PIN”), your account must be clear of holds, and it must be within your designated registration time (see Registration Timetable).

CatCourse Information

CatCourse is Montana State University's registration software. It is  designed to ensure students get the classes they need with their preferred schedule.  A student identifies all the courses they wish to take and CatCourse provides all possible schedules OR identifies where conflicts occur that prevent all classes being taken in the same semester. CatCourse is an integral tool in helping students remain on track and on time towards graduation.

To add additional classes after registration has been completed, login to MyInfo, click on "Student Services," then choose "Registration"  and select "CatCourse".

In CatCourse, notice the original courses you added are still listed and checked under Courses. To generate new schedules incorporating what you’ve already registered for, you must uncheck courses from this list that you wish to not be included in new schedule generations. You may add new courses as well.

The courses that you’ve already enrolled in appear under Current Schedule. You may uncheck these to generate new schedule options, but you still must drop courses under the Add/Drop menu in MyInfo.

Any courses remaining in your Registration Cart that have not been registered appear under Registration Cart. Uncheck these courses if you wish to generate new schedule options.

When ready, click “Generate Schedules”, click “View” on your preferred schedule, then “Send to Registration Cart”. Refer to CatCourse Instructions for further details.

  • To see your completed schedule by day and time, use the “Student Schedule by Day and Time” link from the “Registration” page on the “Student Services” tab.

If the week shown has holidays, not all your classes will show. Click on the “Next Week” link above the schedule to advance further into the semester.

Your bill will be automatically generated and will be viewable from the “Student Records” portion of MyInfo. Please confirm your bill as soon as possible to avoid being dropped from your classes.

Making Changes to a Class Schedule

The last day to add classes online is the 5th class day of the semester. The last day to drop a class online is the 10th class day of the semester. After these dates, students must submit an Add/Drop form with the appropriate signatures within the allotted time frame.

Registration Add Errors

If the system indicates that you have a Hold on your account that prevents registration, log into MyInfo and click on "Student Services," "Student Records," and "View Holds."  You must resolve the Hold in order to register for classes.

This error indicates that you have not successfully completed the necessary courses required to advance to the next level. If you completed the prerequisite at a different institution, you may bring a copy of your transcript to the department and request that they sign an Add/Drop form to be brought to the Registrar's Office for manual entry into the course. Test scores may also satisfy prerequisites. Courses taken in high school do not satisfy prerequisites.

This error indicates that two or more of your classes overlap in time. You will either need to adjust your schedule so that there is a gap of more than 5 minutes between each class, or bring a signed Add/Drop form to the Registrar's Office for manual entry into the course.

Either of these errors indicates that an instructor or department administrator is required to either register you for the course or sign an Add/Drop form to be brought to the Registrar's Office for manual entry into the course.
This error indicates that all available seats for the class are full.
These errors indicate that there are multiple courses and/or sections of a course that must be registered for simultaneously. The most common combinations are lecture/lab, recitation/studio and lecture/lab/recitation.
