Amenities

Free Cable Television:
Free cable television is just another example of why Residence Life at MSU is the good life. As a resident, you will receive at least sixty cable channels, absolutely free. These channels include, but are not limited to: MTV, TNT, ESPN, ESPN 2, FX, A&E, DISCOVERY, LIFETIME, and DISNEY.

ResNet:
MSU ResNet is a campus network that gives students a direct network connection to the Internet and campus resources at a rate of 300 times faster than a conventional modem. ResNet benefits include: no time limit, free technical support six days a week, no dial up busy signals, your phone line is available while you’re online, and Ethernet access to campus network services.

Computer Labs:
Computer labs are available to hall residents 24 hours a day/ seven days a week! Due to limited space in Roskie Hall, the South Hedges computer room has been expanded to meet the needs of Roskie residents. Each lab computer is connected to the campus network, with Internet connections much faster than a telephone modem. Residence hall students will have access to the Internet and email at no charge.

Fitness Facilities:
Residence Life houses limited fitness facilities at Montana State University. Fitness facilities are located in South Hedges, Mullan, Hapner, Hannon, and Langford. The South Hedges fitness room was recently remodeled and houses state of the art equipment. You are encouraged to visit these facilities while on a tour of our residence halls.

Convenience Store:
Located in the basement of North Hedges, the “Hedge Hog” Convenience Store and Deli offers a variety of snack, grocery, drink, and deli items including sandwiches, soup, pretzels, pizza, frozen yogurt, hotdogs, donuts, fountain drinks, and much more! A new branch of the Hedge Hog, the South Hedge Hog, recently opened in the lobby of South Hedges, providing another convenient place for student to buy fountain soda and snacks.

Academic Tutorials:
Living on campus gives students access to academic tutorial areas designed to accommodate one on one and small group meetings for students seeking academic support, advising, or just a quiet space to study. Academic tutorials are located in North Hedges and the Johnstone Center. Reservations may be made through the Residence Life Office by calling (406) 994-2661.

Campus Traditions:
Many of MSU’s strongest traditions are alive and well in the residence halls. As a member of the campus community, you are invited to participate in all campus traditions including: The Mistletoe Hop, the Hapner Formal, Jim Bridger Days, Springfest, The Johnstone Masquerade Ball, Quads Shindig, Tri-towers BBQ, Roskie Run, and more!

Residence Hall Association:
The Residence Hall Association (RHA) is an organization made up of the students who live in our halls. The main responsibilities of RHA are the planning of activities, keeping supplies at each hall Front Desk, and a vast array of other functions. Click here to find out more about RHA.

Hall Front Desk Services:
Each hall has a main desk that serves as a vital information center for the hall community. If a student needs something, they can usually find it at the front desk. There are spare keys, kitchen equipment, TV’s, VCR’s, various sports equipment, and magazines available for checkout; as well as a photocopy service, mail delivery and pickup, UPS and Federal Express delivery and pick up. A Program Assistant staffs the desk between 8am and 5pm Monday through Friday. Hall residents also staff the desk; click here for a Desk Clerk application.

Custodial:
A professionally trained custodial staff cleans each hall’s public areas. Restrooms are cleaned daily, and hallways, lounges, and lobbies are cleaned on a routine schedule. Student Weekend Custodians clean on Saturday and Sunday, as well as national holidays to keep residence halls looking their best. Students can find cleaning equipment on each floor or at the hall Front Desk to help keep their own rooms clean. RHA also provides vacuum cleaners at each hall Front Desk for a small fee.

Free Storage:
Space for the storage of empty trunks, luggage, and apparel containers is available in most halls on a limited basis. You should contact your RA to check-in or to check-out your belongings. Storage rooms are locked at all times for the security of the items being stored.

Summer storage:
If you are returning to the residence halls in the Fall, you may store items over the summer for a nominal fee through a program sponsored by RHA. Information on this service will be available during the Spring Semester.

Key Check-Out/Replacement:
If you misplace your key, you may temporarily check out a spare at the hall Front Desk. If it is determined that you have lost your room key, you will be required to fill out a work order and pay a $40.00 re-key charge before you can have the new key (re-key charges are subject to change without notice).

Kitchens:
Most halls have kitchen facilities, which are available for recreational cooking. Check with your hall Front Desk concerning usage policies. RHA generally provides some cooking equipment, accessible through the Front Desk.

Laundry Facilities:
Washers and dryers are located in laundry rooms found either in the basement or on individual floors of the hall, depending on the building. The machines are reserved for resident use only. Ironing boards are available in the laundry rooms or on floors throughout the building and many desks have irons available for use at no charge. The machines are easily accessed by using your student One Card.

Maintenance:
We’d like to keep your hall and room in good condition and will do our best to remedy any problems brought to our attention. If you are aware of any needed repairs or safety problems, let your RA know as soon as possible. If, after a reasonable time, the problem has not been resolved, check back with your RA.

Community Activities:
With only 20% of the student’s time spent in the classroom, the department of Residence Life is committed to providing additional living/learning opportunities for our students. Each RA is required to offer a variety of events designed to enhance the collegiate experience and build an enjoyable living and learning community.

Recreation Facilities:
Intramural fields can be found outside of the high-rise residence halls, and a recreational field is located directly in front of Langford and Johnstone/Mullan. Most hall Front Desks have sporting equipment available for check-out. RHA also funds a game room in some of the residence halls.

Telephones:
Each room is equipped with a telephone that is owned by the University system. Free local service is provided to all residence hall students.
