P2P Guide: iMesh

Making the following changes in the iMesh options menu and completely shutting it down when you are away from your computer will help prevent wasting bandwidth.

  1. Go to the Preferences menu and click 'Options...'.

  2. In the Options menu, click the General tab. Once there, you can set iMesh to not launch on startup by removing the check next to Launch on startup. This will keep iMesh from running everytime you turn your computer on, even when you dont want it to. By preventing iMesh from loading at startup, you also speed up the boot time of your computer because there is less for it to load.

  3. Next, click on the Traffic tab.

Here you can limit the number of incoming and outgoing connections. You want to set Maximum concurrent downloads to 2 so that you aren't using more bandwidth than needed. Also, set Maximum concurrent uploads to 2 as well. As a final measure to limit the amount of bandwidth you are using, set Maximum bandwidth to 64 KB/s.

Select OK to accept the changes and close the Options window.

  4. Exiting iMesh

Done with iMesh or leaving your PC? Close the application to save some bandwidth.

When you are done actively using iMesh or just away from your computer, you should completely close the application. If you see the iMesh icon in your System Tray, it is not fully closed.

To close it, right click on the icon and select 'Exit'.
