We have completed our upgrade of the Paisley Court backbone, upgrading from 11 Mbps wireless
to 100 Mbps fiber optic. Paisley Court residents will notice an increase in both speed and
reliability, especially during periods of heavy use.

Due to rampant excessive bandwidth usage by a few ResNet users, ResNet will be enforcing the
fair use rule contained in the ResNet Acceptable Use Policy (AUP). In
order to speed up the connection for everyone we are limiting the excessive bandwidth use by
a few of our users. Most of this excessive use is due to file sharing applications.
February 1st, 2005
Wireless users: Please turn off or disable your wireless card on your laptop when you are
using ResNet. These wireless cards can cause interference with our equipment. If you need
help turning off your wireless card please call the ResNet help desk at (406) 994-1929.

Fall 2004 ResNet service sign ups are being done online. You will not need to come to the
ResNet office in North Hedges to sign up for ResNet service during the first week of the
fall semester. You will have until September 5th to complete the online registration. Our
office is still open for computer service, help, and late sign ups.

Windows XP Service Pack 2 is now available from \\OCL\Public on the ResNet network. (Click
on Start, Run, type in "\\ocl\public") or click
here for direct access. You can also visit Windows Updates at
windowsupdate.microsoft.com.

MSU has completed the upgrade of its main internet connection. MSU has almost doubled its
bandwidth to a total of 45 Mbps!

We have completed our upgrade of the Grant Chamberlin backbone, upgrading from 11 Mbps
wireless to 100 Mbps fiber optic. Grant Chamberlin residents will notice an increase in both
speed and reliability, especially during periods of heavy use. This upgrade has also improved
reliability in Paisley Court, Branegan Court and McIntosh Court.
