Setup Guide: Windows 95, 98, and ME
1. Click on the Start Button on the Task Bar.
2. Choose Settings, then Control Panel.

3. Double-click on the Network Icon. The window below will open.

Your ethernet card name and configuration may not exactly match those shown here.
4. Look to see if "Client For Microsoft Networks" is listed in the network
components panel, if so, proceed to step 9. Otherwise, continue.
5. Under the Network Configuration Tab, click on the Add Button.
6. In the window titled "Select Network Component Type", choose the "Client" network component and click on the Add button.
7. In the "Select Network Client" window, choose "Microsoft" as the Manufacturer, then choose "Client for Microsoft Networks" as the Network Client.
8. Click on the OK button.

9. Look to see if "TCP/IP" is listed in the network components panel, is so, proceed to step 14. Otherwise, continue.
10. Again, under the Network Configuration tab, click on the Add Button.

11. Choose "Protocol" network component, then click on the Add button.

12. In the window titled "Select Network Protocol," choose "Microsoft" as the Manufacturer and then "TCP/IP" as the Network Protocol.
13. Click on the OK button.
14. Back in the Network Configuration window, double-click on "TCP/IP".

15. Under the tab labeled "IP Address", select "Obtain an IP address automatically. DO NOT click on the OK button yet (if you do, just double-click on TCP/IP again).

16. Under the tab labeled "WINS Configuration", choose the "Use DHCP
for WINS Resolution" option.

17. Under the tab labeled "DNS Configuration", choose Enable DNS.
18. You must also enter your computer name here under Host, the same as under the Identification tab (see #22).
19. In the "Domain" space, enter msu.montana.edu

20. Click on the ADVANCED tab, and make sure there is a check in the "Set this protocol to be the default protocol" box.
21. Click on OK.
22. Now, back in the Network window, click on the tab labeled "Identification" and enter your computer name EXACTLY as you entered your Host name above (see #16).
23. Enter "ResNet" for your workgroup

24. Now click on OK.
25. Windows will ask you to restart your computer, do so.
26. Important: When your computer starts up and asks for your user name and password, make sure you hit "OK" and NOT "Cancel". You can enter anything you wish for user name and password, including a blank password.
