Needs
It has been over twenty years
since the Strand Union was last
remodeled and expanded, and it shows. Due to extremely
heavy use, the interior décor and furnishings are well worn
and require updating. The scheduling of the limited
number of meeting rooms to meet peak demand for student
activities is nearly impossible. Accommodating peak-hour
demands in the popular Union Market has become
increasingly difficult. In addition, deferred maintenance,
accessibility issues, code, and other functional deficiencies
demand immediate attention.
Solutions
The SUB remodel and
expansion will focus on key
improvements to address concerns from
students who regularly use the building. The
proposed project will increase services and
make the Strand an even better place to hang
out. Here are the highlights:
- Enlarge the Union Market – more seats
- Provide more meeting rooms for students
- Provide 200-seat Procrastinator Theater
- New center for Student Organizations
- Remodel Rec Center/Bobcat Food Court
- New Convenience Store
- Create space for New Student Services
- Upgrade infrastructure to improve comfort, lighting, data access
- Improve accessibility and code issues
- NEW FURNITURE!!
