MSU 101 FAQ

MSU 101 FAQ's

Who can participate in MSU 101?
  • Freshman and sophomore standing students (including first-time, first year, returning freshman, part-time, and full-time).
  • MSU 101 is not mandatory but is strongly recommended for students who have been placed on academic probation or who are having a tough time making the academic adjustment to MSU.
What do I need to do to register for MSU 101?
  • To register, click here.
  • You will be asked to complete a registration form and answer a few questions that will allow us to better tailor the program to meet your needs.
Is there a cost for the program?
  • There is no cost for the program; in fact, if you actively participate in the program (we'll review the criteria for active participation during the session) you'll receive a deposit of $25 per session on your CatCard to use for campus services.  Yes, that's right, we are "paying" you to attend (and we'll even buy you lunch or dinner).
Where and When?
  • The program is offered once a month, with an option for a 2 day intensive class in January.
  • Sessions are usually held in SUB 233/235, but be sure to review your registration email for specific details.
  • Food and refreshments will be served.
  • Remember, you must attend the entire program to be eligible for the CatCard award.
Why is MSU hosting this program?
  • You chose MSU to pursue a dream (even if you aren't quite certain what "you'll be when you grow up").  This program will help you get on the right track to define and pursue your academic, personal and career goals – and you'll have a little fun while doing it.
  • The transition to college life can be difficult; we believe that with a little help you can re-apply yourself and be a successful student at MSU.
  • Bottom line, we want to see you succeed.  You are a member of the MSU family and we are willing to invest in your success by hosting and rewarding you for your active participation.
What are the expectations of MSU 101?
  • You must attend the entire program.
  • You must actively participate in the program – reasonable expectations will be established during the first session.
  • Support from MSU professionals and peers will be provided after the program.  Our hope is that we "check-in" regularly with each other to ensure your academic and personal success at MSU.
