Bicycle Task Force
Bicycle Task Force
Our Bicycle Task Force is aiming to increase biking to and from campus. The Bicycle Task Force is a group of MSU faculty, staff, and students committed to promoting and improving bike-ability on campus. This Task Force was created after two alumnus saw how the biking at MSU could improve, and made a donation to do just that. The $30,000.00 donation is to be put towards improving programs and facilities for cyclists and many new projects are underway as a result.
If you are interested in sitting in, Task Force meetings are public and meeting dates and times will be announced on this as they are decided. Meeting agendas, minutes, and other relevant documents can also be found on this site.
MSU Campus Bike Master Plan (2014-present) – the Task Force, with the support of Alta Planning + Design is in the process of developing a document that outlines present and future campus biking needs. This document will be used as a guide for future construction of bike infrastructure and programs as well as bike accommodation in other campus developments.
EGEN 310 (Spring Semester 2015) – 280 students in Multidisciplinary Engineering Design are currently creating projects that outline bike-ability problems around the MSU campus and possible solutions to those problems. Students were asked to budget their solutions to cost under $30,000.00 so that the best submissions could be considered as actual campus projects. The Task Force will be reviewing the projects as they are completed.
Bobcat Bike Check (2014-Present) - The MSU Office of Sustainability hosts free, secure, valet bike parking at Bobcat football games. Twenty-five bikes were parked at the first game, one hundred at the second and it has continued to grow even more popular!
MSU Bike Survey (2014) - Then MSU Bike / Pedestrian Coordinator Petra Davis and the Task Force surveyed ~1600 faculty, staff, and students (with 400+ replies) on their biking habits and projects they would like to see as a means of improving biking to and from campus.
Bike to School Week (April, 2014) – Prior MSU Bike / Pedestrian Coordinator Petra Davis hosted a four-day Bike to School event that promoted biking to and from campus. The event included free bike tune-ups from the Bike Kitchen, free coffee from Little Red Wagon Coffee and Zocalo Coffee House as well as food and raffle donations from the Co-op, Jessie May, and others. This event will be held again April 2015.
