Academic Advising Checklist  From The College of Saint Benedict/ Saint John's University, this a short yet comprehensive list of FAQ's and advise for the academic advisor. Topics include time management, effective listening, note taking, and stress management suggestions.

The Mentor   A free electronic publication about academic advising in higher education.The goal of this journal (available only on the Web) is to provide a mechanism for the rapid dissemination of new ideas about advising and for ongoing discourse about advising issues.

Guidelines on the Advising of Doctoral Graduate Students An important distinction between the graduate (and especially doctoral) and the undergraduate experiences is the close working relationship between a graduate student and the graduate faculty of his or her department. This relationship is expected to provide a foundation for the student's career long after the degree has been granted. This page goes into detail, making that distinction, and adding insight that can be applied toward undergraduate advising.

Instrusive Advising  According to the author, intrusive advising has been effective in increasing the retention and overall academic performance of a variety of high risk students. It also has been shown to benefit traditional college students as well. This page describes this type of advising.

Advisor, Teacher, Role Model, Friend This guide-intended for faculty members, teachers, administrators, and others who advise and mentor students of science and engineering-attempts to summarize features that are common to successful mentoring relationships. Its goal is to encourage mentoring habits that are in the best interests of both parties to the relationship. While this guide is meant for mentoring students in science and engineering the majority of it is widely applicable to mentoring in any field.
