Goals Inventory Online Taking this inventory engages you in your own
teaching values system. It forces you to clarify and prioritize. It is
also an excellent preparation exercise for writing a statement of teaching
philosophy. Its purpose is threefold: (1) to help college teachers
become more aware of what they want to accomplish in individual courses;
(2) to help faculty locate Classroom Assessment Techniques they can adapt
and use to assess how well they are achieving their teaching and learning
goals; and (3) to provide a starting point for discussion of teaching and
learning goals among colleagues.

Online Evaluations From the Teaching, Learning, and Technology
Group, this site contains a database of 500 indexed questions and evaluation
building software. There is a yearly site license depending on the size
of your institution.
Continuous Quality
Improvement (CQI) From the private sector, this site is based on standards
of excellence that are applicable to the educational realm; comprehensive
and complete.
Inviting
Criticism of Your Own Ideas A Berkeley Compendium, this is an honest
and open analysis for self evaluation and open discussion of educational
alternatives.
Student
Surveys of Teaching and Courses The Institutional Research and Evaluation
Service (IRES) at Murdoch University in Western Australia has developed
anassortment of student surveys to help the faculty collect feedback from
students on their teaching or course.
The
Teaching Portfolio at Washington State University According to
the authors at Washington State University, a teaching portfolio is a compilation
of information about a faculty member's teaching, made by that faculty
member, often for use in consideration for tenure or promotion. It is not,
in itself, an instrument for teaching evaluation, but a vehicle for presenting
information which may include results of evaluations and which may itself
contribute to evaluation.
The Association of
College and Research Libraries (ACRL) A division of the American
Library Association, ACRL is a professional association of academic librarians
and other interested individuals. It is dedicated to enhancing the ability
of academic library and information professionals to serve the information
needs of the higher education community and to improve learning, teaching,
and research, and accordingly, professional self-develpment and improvement.
EDUCAUSE
An international nonprofit association dedicated to transforming higher
education through information technologies. In July, 1998, EDUCAUSE was
formed by joining together CAUSE and Educom. EDUCAUSE focuses on the management
and use of computational, network, and information resources in support
of higher education's missions of scholarship, instruction, service, and
administration. While many of its services are aimed at the IT professional,
their conferences and web site are useful for any educator seeking a better
understanding of technology, with an emphasis on professional development.
POD The Professional and Organizational Development Network in Higher Education provides support and services to those interested in faculty development through conferences, newsletters, publications, and consulting.
PEER OBSERVATIONS A very good way to learn about your teaching is to engage the help of a peer in observing and reporting on your teaching. This is also a common requirement in departmental Promotion and Tenure processes. The Center for Teaching Effectiveness , University of Texas at Austin, has prepared a useful guide to this process.
