Service Learning Links

National Service-Learning Clearinghouse Home   Service-learning combines service objectives with learning objectives with the intent that the activity change both the recipient and the provider of the service. This is accomplished by combining service tasks with structured opportunities that link the task to self-reflection, self-discovery, and the acquisition and comprehension of values, skills, and knowledge content. This site is the most extensive in covering this increasingly important component of a university education.

Partnership For Service Learning Offered in 14 countries, IPS-L programs unite academic study and volunteer service, giving university students a fully integrated study abroad experience. The service enlivens the formal learning, and the learning informs the service. Both students and the host communities benefit from the substantial service each student gives.

Campus Compact This is the membership organization of college and university presidents committed to public and community service. This creative and extensive site contains resource materials, information regarding workshops and conferences, and state campus compacts.

National Society for Experiential Learning The National Society for Experiential Education (NSEE) is a membership association committed to all forms of experiential learning - whether they happen in the classroom, workplace, or community. NSEE is a strong advocate of partnerships that contribute to more dynamic classrooms, a stronger workforce, and thriving communities. This organization promotes experienced-based approaches to teaching and learning including service-learning. It contains publications, a resources center, conference information, and membership materials.

Campus Outreach Opportunity League This site details the programs and services of COOL - a non-profit organization that helps college students start, strengthen, and expand community service programs on their campuses. An extensive list of other service-learning links is also found here.

Corporation for National Service The Corporation for National and Community Service connects Americans of all ages and backgrounds with opportunities to give back to their communities and their nation through voluntary service. This site contains information on CNS's three main programs: Americorps, Learn and Serve America, and National Senior Service Corps. It also contains information on grants and higher education programs.

The Michigan Journal of Community Service Learning The Michigan Journal of Community Service Learning (MJCSL) is a national, peer-reviewed journal consisting of articles written by faculty and service-learning educators on research, theory, pedagogy, and issues pertinent to the service-learning community.
