Testing and Grading  This site is divided  into two main sections (Testing and Grading, and Student Conduct and Classroom Management), although you may notice many areas in which both of these categories are closely linked. The pages are formatted as a list of frequently asked questions and pertinent web links where information and answers may be found. They have included only those web resources that offer information that is applicable to faculty concerns beyond any specific higher education institution.

Assessment Based on Bloom's Taxonomy  Bloom's Taxonomy provides a useful structure with which to develop assessment techniques.

Designing & Managing Multiple Choice Questions  An entire handbook dedicated to explaining the benefits and limitations of MCQs including a helpful appendix on how to design MCQs through Bloom's Taxonomy.

Assessment Resources From the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. See especially "Assessment of Student Academic Achievement: Levels of Implementation," updated March 2002 (pdf).

IDEA Center Teaching Evaluation Forms The IDEA (Individual Development Educational Assessment) Center has online versions of its instruments, which have been well tested by reliability and validity. The most popular product is the IDEA Student Ratings of Instruction System, which focuses on student learning to assess and improve instructor effectiveness. This system follows the student learning model that specific teaching methods influence certain types of student progress under certain circumstances.

Internet Resources for Higher Education Outcomes Assessment  Extensive list of resources from North Carolina State University's Office of University Planning & Analysis. A very comprehensive assessment site with a wealth of resources. Continually updated, it has something for everyone.

Classroom Assessment Techniques  A discussion of classroom assessment techniques (CATs) that include team learning, writing multiple-choice questions, creating successful group assignments, and online assessment.

Constructing Rubrics  This is a great tool to help you incorporate critical thinking into your student assessment criteria. Clear and concise, it is also useful to help students understand how to apply critical thinking.

UMass Office of Academic Planning and Assessment University of Massachusetts Amherst developed a handbook/workbook for teachers on assessing student learning in courses. The handbook is easy to use and runs step-by-step through writing goals and objectives.
