Writing for Learning, Not Just for Demonstrating Learning From the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Peter Elbow describes a number of concrete ideas for helping students write better in all courses, with an emphasis on writing to learn. He outlines strategies for designing effective writing assignments and for responding to and evaluating student work.

Writing Resource Center  An extensive and exhaustive site with articles and links of interest to writers. All aspects of writing are covered, and this site would be of interest to both faculty and aspiring student writers.

The Alliance for Computers and Writing The Alliance for Computing and Writing had its origins in the concept that more and more people are beginning to use technology in their writing classrooms and therefore require an immediate and continuing source of practical information,  principally information shared by more experienced colleagues.

Writing Across the Curriculum  This Georgia State University site offers a concise history of Writing Across the Curriculum and a number of discipline specific writing links.

ERIC Summary on Writing Across the Curriculum  This site provides resources and answers common questions about
writing across the curriculum.

Teaching Students to Take Better Notes   This site explores the question: why is it important for your students to take notes? Studies find that note taking helps students focus attention, promotes more thorough elaboration of ideas, and encourages efforts to relate ideas and organize materials. In short, note taking helps students to process information more deeply.

Grading Written Assignments We have all been overwhelmed by the grading process. Though many of the tips below may appear to be time-consuming, they can in fact lead to a reduction in grading time and more importantly, a more productive, fruitful use of that time.
