Montana INBRE Program
Undergraduate Research
Biomedical, Social and Behavioral Sciences
"I honestly loved everything about it. I always loved coming to work.  I really enjoyed being able to see results that no one else had seen before."
-Kelly Christensen, Junior, Microbiology-

Biomedical Research Experiences for Undergraduates
This five-year program focuses on increasing the biomedical research capacity of Montana by building research infrastructure, supporting faculty and student research, and fostering a state-wide collaborative network.  A major focus of this program is to offer funding to support undergraduate research in areas related to the biomedical, social and behavioral sciences.

Student Eligibility
Students studying in fields as diverse as the social sciences, veterinary sciences, natural sciences and engineering are potentially preparing themselves for careers that can contribute to biomedical research advances and are eligible for this program.  Students who have used up their USP eligibility may still be eligible for funding through the INBRE program.

Selection Criteria

INBRE Scholars will be selected according to the following criteria:

Clarity and merit of the research proposal
Student's preparation
Student's academic accomplishments
Sponsor Statement

Three-Step Application Process
Step One: Faculty Member Sponsor
You should locate a faculty member sponsor who is willing to collaborate with you on your research project.  Sponsors who have agreed to provide mentorship to students are listed here.  If your mentor is not listed, or if you have questions about whether your research project is eligible, please contact Professor Sarah Codd (scodd@coe.montana.edu, 994-1944).

Step Two: Prepare an On-line Application

You need to prepare the following:

1. Application. (Note: PLEASE INDICATE THAT YOU ARE APPLYING FOR INBRE FUNDING ON THE APPROPRIATE “INBRE” CHECKBOX OF THE APPLICATION.  One application can be used to apply for both INBRE and General USP funding.  First you will be considered for INBRE funding.  If you are not funded by INBRE you will subsequently be considered for USP funding.)

2. Proposal.

3. Copy of current transcripts.

4. Sponsor statement of support.

Step Three: Application Submittal
The deadline for spring submission of your completed on-line application package is Friday, March 1, 2013.
