MUS Wellness services are available to insured faculty, staff, retirees and their
insured spouses as members of the Montana University System Group Benefit Plan.

  • An inexpensive way to gather information about your general health.
  • Includes TSH (Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone).
  • Screens electrolytes, diabetes, heart (lipids).
  • Screens kidney, liver, bone, muscle, iron function.
  • Recommended consult with healthcare provider to assess testing frequency.
  • 12 hour fast required; water and medications permitted.
  • PSA

     
    Free once per plan year to men over 50 or $25
  • Prostate Specific Antigen.
  • Used to detect prostate cancer.
  • Recommended to men over 50.
  • Recommended to men over 40 who have a family history of prostate cancer.

    Please note: men over 65 who are Medicare eligible can get the PSA free from their health care provider.

  • Colon Cancer Screening Kit
    Free annually
    Colon Cancer screening is free annually to:
  • Men and women 50+.
  • Plan members 40+ who have a family history of colon cancer.
  • Plan members 40+ who have polyps.
  • Plan members 40+ who have chronic constipation or improper eliminiation.

    Complete Blood Count

    CBC presents a general picture of a person's blood health and checks for infection, anemia and early signs of leukemia. Recommended for people who are "not feeling well" and to monitor treatment of many diseases. The 7 components are:   
  • White blood cell count
  • Red blood cell count
  • Hemoglobin concentration
  • Hematocrit value
  • Indices
  • Platelet count
  • White blood count differential
  • C-Reactive Protein

  • Elevated levels can indicate artery inflammation
  • May cause cholesterol deposits to break off and clog an artery.
  • Recommended for those wanting to assess their risk of heart disease.
  • Not recommended inflammatory disease sufferers/pre-menopausal women.
  • Hemoglobin A1c
    $30
  • Records average blood glucose levels for previous 2-3 months.
  • Recommended for monitoring glucose control among diabetics
  • Recommended for anyone with a family history of diabetes.
  • Drop-in Blood Draw Fee
    $5
    Drop-in blood draw fee paid to student health services or other drawing laboratory. Applies to UM Missoula; MSU Bozeman; MSU Billings; and MSU Northern only. Appointment required; contact your campus Wellness office.
    Note: the costs incurred for Wellness blood tests cannot be submitted for insurance reimbursement. They can, however, be submitted to your MUS flexible spending account or Montana medical savings account.
