Jim Lucas, a longtime resident of
Montana, is widely known for his highly regarded
legal practice and his extensive involvement in
community and state affairs throughout Montana.
When asked about his involvement with the Wheeler
Center, Lucas, a six-year Member of the Board,
noted that "The work of the Center is unique
and important in Montana, as it is one of the few
entities that has created a meaningful forum to
discuss issues of critical importance to our
state. The annual forums have grown each
year in size and importance and have included such
heavy weight topics as Energy and Coal Bed Methane
Development, Agriculture and the Free Market,
Campaign Reform, and the future of our National
Forests. Participants always include
knowledgeable Montanans, and speakers of regional
and national prominence. The Center, in its
study and presentation of issues affecting
economic vitality and quality of life in our
state, is strictly non-partisan, does not shy away
from controversial issues and makes certain that
the views of all sides are represented."
Lucas brings a wide variety of experience to
the Center. He served in the Montana
legislature and was Speaker of the House, directed
the Mountain States Legal Foundation Board, and
has been on the Board of Directors for Montana
Power and US West. He is a past recipient of
the US Small Business Administration's
"Advocate of the Year" award and is active in
many other statewide endeavors. |
