| This
past year we lost two of the most valued members
of our Board of Directors, Edward K. Wheeler and
Elizabeth Wheeler Colman. Born in Butte, they
moved to Washington with their father, Burton K.
Wheeler, when he was elected to the U.S. Senate.
But they returned every summer to the family
cabins at the end of Lake McDonald in Glacier Park
and remained to the end of their lives intensely
interested in Montana, its politics and its public
policies.
Edward was a
prominent attorney, deeply involved in the
re-organization of the railroads and the beginning
of the telecommunications industry in this
country. Elizabeth authored a very fine biography
of her parents, Mrs. Wheeler Goes to Washington.
Both of them were committed to the Wheeler Center,
not simply as a way of honoring their father's
memory but also of contributing to the welfare of
the state and its people. |
