The following instructions are for configuring an MSU-Secure wireless network connection on a device that has a Windows 8 operating system such as a smart phone or Surface tablet.

  1. Summon the charms bar by:
    • using a mouse (point at the top or bottom right corners)
    • or a keyboard (press the Windows key + C)
    • or touching screen (slide your finger inward from the screen's right edge).
    Begin to type Control Panel.

  2. Click Network and Internet.

  3. Click Network and Sharing Center.

  4. Select Manually connect to a wireless network.

  5. Enter and verify the following information:
    • Network name: MSU-Secure
    • Security type: WPA2-Enterprise
    • Encryption type: AES
    • Check the box: Start this connection automatically.

  6. Click Next.
  7. Click Change connection settings.

  8. Click Setup a new connection or network

  9. Click the Security tab.

  10. Verify the network authentication method is PEAP
  11. Check box next to: Remember my credentials.
  12. Click the Settings button.

  13. Check the box next to Verify the server's identity by validating the certificate.
  14. Verify the Authentication Method is set to EAP-MSCHAP v2, then click the Configure... button
  15. Check box next to Enable Fast Reconnect.
  16. Click Configure... button

  17. Uncheck the box and click OK.
  18. Click OK again.

  19. Click the Advanced settings button.

  20. Check the box next to Specify authentication mode.
  21. Select User authentication.
  22. Click the Save credentials button.

  23. Enter your MSU NetID and password.
    Be sure to enter msu\ before your NetID as shown in image above.
  24. Click OK on the remaining prompts to close all windows.
