Wireless Network Security

Wireless networking offers great convenience and flexibility in the choice of computing location. However, wireless networking is not as fast as a wired connection to the campus network. While it is well suited for email and Web browsing, it may be unsuitable for large downloads such as audio or video files.

Depending on the capabilities and configurations of the client, wireless communications may not be completely secure. Data sent and received over the MSU wireless network will generally be in clear text and unencrypted unless some form of security is enabled.

The ITC Help Desk can assist those whose wireless networking applications require full security. Contact the MSU Information Technology Center Help Desk at 406 994-1777 for assistance in configuring your hardware to securely send and receive data on the MSU wireless network.
