These groups include: women of all racial or ethnic groups; African American, Native American, and Hispanic men; and people with disabilities.

Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellows Program

Society of Women Engineers (SWE) scholarships

AT&T Labs Fellowship Program

Grants offer support to students in computer and communications-related fields. Each recipient of a grant is placed in a summer research internship the first summer. During these summers, the students work as a part of research teams on various ongoing projects within AT&T Labs, specifically with a mentor who is a staff member at AT&T Labs. The program emphasizes personal interaction with each mentor.

American Association for the Advancement of Science
L'oreal-USA Fellowships for Women in Science

The sponsor provides award funding to annually recognize, reward and support five women postdoctoral researchers in the U.S. who are pursuing careers in the life and physical/material sciences, as well as mathematics, engineering and computer science.

American Association of University Women (AAUW) Educational Foundation Fellowships and Grants

As one of the largest sources of funding in the world exclusively for graduate women, the American Association of University Women Educational Foundation in 2002-03 distributed more than $4 million in fellowships, grants, and awards.

  • American Fellowships support women doctoral candidates completing dissertations and scholars seeking funds for postdoctoral research leave. One-year postdoctoral research leave fellowships, dissertation fellowships, and summer/short-term research publication grants are offered. (Postmark deadline: November 15, 2009)
  • Selected Professions Fellowships are awarded to women who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents and who intend to pursue a full-time course of study (during the fellowship year) in designated degree programs where women's participation traditionally has been low. (Postmark deadline: January 10, 2010)
  • Career Development Grants support women who hold a bachelor's degree and who are preparing to advance their careers, change careers, or re-enter the work force. (Postmark deadline: December 15, 2009)
  • International Fellowships are awarded for full-time graduate or postgraduate study or research to women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Both graduate and postgraduate study at accredited institutions are supported. 57 fellowships will be awarded. (Postmark deadline: December 1, 2009)
  • Community Action Grants provide start-up funds for longer-term programs and are restricted to projects focused on K-14 girls' achievement in math, science or technology. (Postmark deadline: January 15, 2010)

Sloan Research Fellowships

The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation is awarding Sloan Research Fellowships to enhance the careers of the very best young faculty members in specified fields of science. Currently, 100 grants of up to $45,000 are awarded annually in chemistry, computer science, economics, mathematics, neuroscience, physics and evolutionary molecular biology.

Women’s International Science Collaboration (WISC) Program

WISC increases the participation of women in international scientific research by awarding on a competitive basis small travel grants to U.S. scientists to plan and design new collaborations with colleagues in Central/Eastern and Western Europe, the Newly Independent States of the former Soviet Union, Near East, Middle East, Africa, the Americas, Pacific, Asia, and Western Europe. These activities are expected to lead to full research proposals that are submitted to the National Science Foundation or other funders.

Workshop for Women Graduate Students and Recent PhDs

AWM provides funding for travel and subsistence to women graduate students and women mathematicians who have received the Ph.D. within the last five years, to attend a workshop held in conjunction with the annual Joint Mathematics Meetings in Atlanta, Georgia. Participants have the opportunity to present and discuss their research and to meet with other women at all stages of their careers.

Women's Research and Education Institute

The WREI Fellowships are designed to train future public policy leaders to examine issues from the perspective, experiences, and needs of women. A WREI Fellow works a minimum of 40 hours a week in a Congressional office as a legislative aide on policy issues affecting women. Fellows meet weekly for issue seminars directed by the WREI staff.

Brookhaven National Laboratory - Science and Engineering Programs for Women and Minorities
