EDCI 280: Applied Learning Strategies

Applied learning strategies is an engaging 1-credit, 10-week course designed to improve students’ scholastic success by combining strategy, application and deeper understandings of the process of learning and personal choice.

Students attend one class and one workshop weekly for 10 weeks, Jan. 22 - Apr. 3:

  • Classes will be on Tuesdays, 12:10-1:00 p.m.
  • Workshops, which are open to all TRiO students, are Thursdays, 12:10-1:00 pm
  • EDCI 280, a one-credit course, is offered through the MSU Extended University. The credit counts toward graduation and fulltime status for Financial Aid purposes. It can be taken pass/fail or for a grade.
  • Students registering through the TRiO Student Support Services office are not charged a fee; Non TRiO students are charged $190 by Burns Technology Center, 204 Culbertson, 994-6550.
The focus of the course is on improving students’ academic and life skills such as test-taking and time management, and on developing increased awareness of the underlying principles that influence conscious and subconscious choices in learning. The small-class environment encourages application of strategy in learning, creating new study habits, and accessing available resources. In addition, the instructor integrates life-skill topics such as learning styles, conflict mediation, and the psychology of happiness with other student skills such as testing.
