Program Objectives

The Technology Education (TE) program at Montana State University is a multi-disciplinary program of study designed to develop technological literacy through the study of past, present, and future technological systems and their impacts on society. Program content is influenced by the Standards for Technological Literacy, as published by the International Technology Education Association (2000). The TE Broadfield Teaching option is designed for individuals wishing to teach Technology Education at the junior high or high school level. There is a critical nationwide shortage of TE teachers thus individuals selecting this career have little difficulty in securing a job as a teacher. The Industry Option provides students the opportunity to develop skills in a variety of areas plus the flexibility to choose courses that allow them to further develop in-depth skills for their chosen career path.

Student Club Update

Four Technology Education students attended the 2013 International Technology and Engineering Educators Association conference in Columbus, OH. The students competed in several events placing second in the Problem Solving activity and third in Robotics. Students competing included Ben Butts, Jennifer Marshall, Margaret Forslund and Kent Liston.

Discovery P12 Lesson Plans Discovery Education transforms classrooms, empowers teachers and captivates students by leading the way in providing high quality, dynamic, digital content to school districts large and small, rural and suburban and everything in between.
Thirteen Ed P12 Lesson Plans Responding to the national need for sustained teacher training, Thirteen/WNET New York, PBS's flagship station, developed Thirteen Ed Online. This free service features everything from standards-based lesson plans and classroom activities to a multimedia primer, online mentors, and reviews of curriculum-based Web sites.
Smithsonian Science and Technology The Center provides leadership in education at the Smithsonian through hosting, the gateway to the institution’s educational resources and programs.
NASA Lesson Plan Ideas for Space A wide variety of aerospace activities and lesson plans have been generated by active teachers, educators, and NASA engineers and scientists. These activities are sponsored by the Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate from NASA HQ, through the Educational Programs Office at NASA Glenn. Many of the activites were developed for the Learning Technologies Project at NASA Glenn.

Project Lead The Way Pre Engineering Curriculum Model.
Jason Science Education Through Exploration JASON and its partners create these connections using multiple platforms and technologies, including award-winning, standards-based classroom curriculum developed with NOAA, NASA, National Geographic Society and others; after-school and out-of-school activities; camp experiences; and exploration programs for museums, aquariums, libraries and community centers. The result is a year-round continuum of classroom and out-of-classroom learning.
The STEM Academy The STEM Academy is a national, non-profit organization dedicated to improving STEM literacy for all students. Curriculum was developed in response to the National Academy of Engineering study, " Engineering in K-12 Education: Understanding the Status and Improving the Prospects".
Teaching Institute for Excellence in STEM The Teaching Institute for Excellence in STEM (TIES) designs and engineers statewide systems of innovative STEM education networks focused on project-based learning in the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Partnering with communities, industry, business, K-12 and higher education, TIES creates a network-based infrastructure that connects innovative STEM schools where students excel and communities prosper.
NSF GK-12 STEM Resources The Graduate STEM Fellows in K-12 Education (GK-12) Program, managed by NSF’s Division of Graduate Education (DGE), provides funding to graduate students in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) disciplines to acquire additional skills that will broadly prepare them for professional and scientific careers in the 21st century
