Initiative for Maximizing Student Diversity (IMSD)

MSU's IMSD Program is an academic enhancement program for undergraduate and graduate students majoring in a biomedical/health science or environmental science field.

The program provides IMSD students with earnings for participation in program activities including work in a research laboratory and academic enhancement sessions. Support for travel to one national scientific meeting each year is also provided.  In addition, the graduate student position receives funding for tuition and books (fees are not included).

Students must maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 and earn 12 credits per semester for undergraduates and minimum of 9 graduate credits each semester for graduate students.

Academic enhancement activities include GRE preparation, career awareness, study skills, time management, presentation skills development and technical writing skills.  An IMSD Student Resource Center is located in the AIRO office at 312 Roberts Hall that is open to students with a math/science tutor available for both one-on-one tutoring and small group tutoring.

Funding for the IMSD program is provided from a award from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences Division of Minority Research and from a grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.
