  1. “Participating in activities that are going to make me feel better about myself, my confidence and most of all, my self-respect is top priority on my list. I have younger siblings, cousins, and godchildren that look up to me and see me as a role model to follow after. With that in mind, I work hard at accomplishing goals that have meaning to them and will make an impression on the younger generations, which does not include drinking alcohol. One thing I enjoy to do is to keep the family tradition of making starquilts. It is something fun, represents strength and creativity, and will one day be an heirloom to pass onto my children.”
  2. “Find something that you enjoy to do and stick with it so that you don’t get tempted into doing activities that involve drinking and partying. Once you find your forte or strong point, just go with it and enjoy it. That is where you will find your confidence. You won’t need to look for yourself or gain your self-confidence through drinking and partying. Many people drink to gain confidence or gain friends. That’s why I did. But the truth is. . . the only place you will ever find out who you are is within yourself, not in a beer can, and once you find that, friends will come naturally.”
