Motivation

An important part of coping with Type II diabetes.

 Diabetics often hear that diabetes is their own responsibility, but staying motivated 24 hours a day, seven days a week can tire anyone out.

Diabetics may find that adjusting to a new lifestyle is a slow process that becomes easier as they learn more about how to take care of themselves. 

Diabetics can cope with stress in several different ways. It depends on their attitude and perception. The only one who understands what it is like to have diabetes is a diabetic.

Positive Thinking - State of mind in which only good thoughts are allowed.

Diabetics need to love themselves; this makes a big difference in their lives. "Positive Thinking" enhances self-esteem.

Diabetics can use humor to make a situation tolerable. Humor is not denial; instead it helps by:

Reducing tension.

Reversing bad thoughts.

Getting rid of a tremendous stress or burden.

 

 

Diabetics may use Native American values and beliefs to cope with their stress.

Diabetics can teach other people about this disease by being open about their diabetes.

Diabetics and their family can find many resources to help them cope from the local Indian Health Service.

Diabetics can join a support group to talk about the problems they face.
