Women with diabetes should know that menopause affects their blood glucose level. They should discuss these issues with a physician.
At the same time as menopause, there is a change in the balance of sex hormones in the body, which sometimes leads to hot flashes and dryness of the mucous membrane lining the vagina.
If a woman's diabetes is not under control, she may have high blood-fat levels, and menopause makes this worse. Because her estrogen level is low, bone loss may occur which eventually leads to osteoporosis.
The physical causes of sexual problems related to diabetes are low hormones and menopause.
