What should diabetics do for proper teeth and gum care?

Keep blood sugar levels under control by:

Getting regular exercise.

Losing weight if overweight.

Eating a healthy diet.

Floss.

Brush teeth often.

Brush the teeth at least 2 times a day for 5 minutes.

Get regular care. Have the teeth cleaned at least every six months.

What to watch out for:

Bad breath.

Bad taste in mouth.

Bleeding or sore gums when they brush or eat.

Sore or loose teeth.

Trouble chewing.

Gums feel soft or hurt when they touch them.

Gums that are pulled away from the teeth.

If any of their teeth have shifted position.
