Risks

There are many risk factors involved in diabetes. These include people who have a family member with diabetes, people who are overweight, people who are older, and women who had diabetes when they were pregnant. Diabetes is also a risk factor in ethnic populations such as African American, Hispanic American, Asian American, Pacific Islanders and Native Americans. Among Native Americans, the degree of Indian blood and the change from a traditional to a more Western lifestyle are also risk factors.
