The charge of the IACUC
is to:
- Review the institution's program for humane care
and use of animals and inspect all of the institution's
animal facilities.
- Suspend any animal-related activities not being
conducted in accordance with the provisions of existing
laws and guidelines.
- Review concerns involving the care and use of animals,
and make recommendations to institutional officials
regarding any aspect of the institution's animal program
facilities, personnel, or policies.
- Conduct formal review of applications, proposals,
and ongoing studies involving the use of animals.
- Semiannual evaluations of the institution's program
for animal care and use, including physical plant
of animal facilities, submitted to Vice President
for Research, Creativity and Technology Transfer.
Membership: The
committee is comprised of at least one Doctor of Veterinary
Medicine with training or experience in laboratory animal
science and medicine; one practicing scientist experienced
in research involving animals; one individual whose
primary concern is in a nonscientific area; and one
individual who is not affiliated with MSU. Other members
are scientists experienced in research representing
departments with major animal use.
Ex Officio Members:
Director, Animal Resources Center. Ad hoc members
may be appointed as deemed necessary.

Reporting Deficiencies
in Animal Care and Use Any member of the Montana
State University Faculty or Staff who has specific concerns
about the care or use of laboratory animals used in
biomedical research, teaching or testing should contact
any member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use
Committee.
