Family Therapy

Family therapy is available on a limited basis at Counseling and Psychological Services. Students, faculty and staff seeking family therapy may make an initial appointment in the usual way. The routine assessment interview will be scheduled and the family may be referred for therapy with a family therapist.

Therapy with the family unit seeks to treat dysfunctional behaviors within the system which result in significant impairment for the family as a whole. Individual issues, such as addictions, anger management, parenting difficulties, etc. may suggest the need for specific referral to an individual therapist, substance abuse counselor or community education program. However, the impact upon the family system and the strengthening of the members of the family are the focus of family therapy.
