Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management:This rigorous minor is designed to provide students with perspective and skills to pursue a successful entrepreneurial career throught the Alderson Program in Entrepreneurship (coursework) and direct experience with entrepreneurs and MSU scientists in the Center for Entrepreneurship for the New West, which is housed within TechRanch Venture Incubator. Both the Alderson Program and the Center for Entrepreneurship for the New West have received national recognition for innovative design and effectiveness. Enrollment in this minor is open to business and non-business students.

Management of Information Technology: Focus on information technology, database creation and managment, business strategy, and creation of a competitive advantage. Enrollment in this minor is open to business and non-business students.

International Business: Develop skills and knowledge necessary for a career in international business by focusing on coursework for your own particular interest.

Business Administration: Gain critical insights into business operations and strategy from accounting, finance, management and marketing coursework. The Business Administration Minor will provide fundamental knowledge and exposure to key business concepts. This minor is open to all non-buisness students.

Accounting: The Accounting Minor is open to all students, with the exception of students pursuing a business degree with an accounting option.  The coursework will help students understand the role accounting plays in business decisions. Students who minor in accounting will learn how to prepare and analyze income statements, balance sheets, cost/managerial reports, and tax returns.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP AND SMALL BUSINESS MANAGEMENT MINOR

MANAGEMENT OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY MINOR

Focus on information technology, database creation and managment, business strategy, and creation of a competitive advantage. Enrollment in this minor is open to business and non-business students. Program objectives include:

  • To provide perspectives, concepts and tools to evaluate and exploit business opportunities and challenges presented by changing information technology.
  • To develop managerial skills to facilitate organizational change that accompanies adoption and implementation of new information technologies.
  • To understand and cope with the complexities of business risk including data security and regulatory compliance.
  • To examine the linkages between information technology, business strategy and creation of competitive advantage.

Students seeking the Management of Information Technology Minor will complete the following courses.

INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MINOR

Develop skills and knowledge necessary for a career in international business by focusing on coursework for your own particular interest.

The objectives of the International Business Minor are:

  • Provide students with a broad-based interdisciplinary educational experience that will enable them to succeed in a culturally diverse global business environment.
  • Enable students to acquire the basic skills and knowledge necessary for a career in international business.
  • Provide students with a flexible, yet rigorous program that suits each student's own individual needs and interests.

Foreign language study is not required but is strongly recommended. As many as 14 credits of language study may be applied toward the minor as electives. The 20 credits of electives must come from at least three different disciplines including, for example, language, geography, history, political science, religious studies, or business. A study abroad experience is also strongly recommended.

Students seeking the International Business Minor will complete the following courses. Students are responsible for fulfilling the appropriate prerequisites for all courses.
