Education Advising Center
The Education Advising Center serves as the primary resource for all education majors.
Freshmen, sophomores and transfer students are advised through the Education Advising Center, 132 Reid Hall. Once students are formally accepted into the Teacher Education Program, they are assigned to a faculty advisor.
The Education Advising Center is committed to the following:
- Assist students in developing meaningful educational plans, compatible with their life goals.
- Help students accept responsibility for their own education.
- Provide guidance in curricular and professional choices to aid students' professional development.
- Assist students in interpretation of institutional requirements.
- Enhance student awareness of educational resources available.
- Evaluate student progress toward established goals.
- Assist students in developing decision-making skills.
Academic Advisors
Elementary and Secondary Education students are encouraged to visit the Education Advising Center each semester. Appointments can be made at anytime, preferably early in the semester. During the appointment, the student's personal course plan will be reviewed and revised as needed. Requirements for entrance to Teacher Education will be reviewed, also.
Transfer and Second-degree students should bring information regarding previous college work to their initial appointment! It is critical that you bring the MSU Evaluation of Transfer Credits if you have received this report from the Registrar's Office.
Elementary Education students (Freshman, Sophomores, and transfers) are advised through the Advising Center prior to their acceptance into Teacher Education and paraprofessional blocks.
Secondary Education students are advised with their major advisor as well as the Advising Center. Students receive detailed information and planning for professional preparation courses, required forms, course prerequisites, and standardized tests needed for entrance into Teacher Education.
Restricted entry to Education courses and personal data forms (PDFs) are available each semester in the Advising Center prior to pre-registration.
Education students are encouraged to read the bulletin board regularly in the hallway outside the Advising Center (132 Reid Hall) prior to pre-registration.
