EDLD 555 School Finance
This course prepares school leaders to identify and analyze sources of fiscal and non-fiscal resources for schools and school districts, to manage financial and material assets, to develop an efficient budget planning process, and to perform budget management functions. There is an emphasis on Montana school finance.
EDLD 574 Field Experience in Educational Leadership
This course is a capstone transition assessment course which provides an opportunity for prospective administrators to observe the dynamics of a community, school district, staff and members of the district administrative team in practice, and to engage in those dynamics as an active participant. These activities must occur under the supervision of a fully certified on-site supervisor who must (1) hold a current, valid Montana administrative certificate, (2) have at least three years administrative experience, and (3) not be in the initial year of a new position. Field experience is an important aspect of a master's degree or certification program in the Educational Leadership (EDLD) Program. It is designed to permit students to experience what it is like to provide leadership at the school and/or district level. It is an opportunity to apply and further develop leadership and administrative knowledge, skills, and abilities under the guidance of a certified school leader in a site outside of the University environment. This is a full exposure to the day-to-day tasks, responsibilities, roles, functions, and demands of an educational leader. To ensure the student's career goals are met in this field-based experience, arrangements for the practicum are negotiated between the student, the on-site supervisor, and the EDLD faculty instructor. EDLD 574 Field Experience provides students with practical applications of theories, concepts and philosophies acquired in the Educational Leadership Program. It combines real-life with in-depth peer sharing and working with mentors as well as an opportunity to network with practitioners. This course requires that an application be completed to affirm appropriate standing to enroll as well as instructor consent. Contact Graduate Programs Assistant, 994-6786.
EDLD 576 Office of Public Instruction (OPI) Internship
The Office of Public Instruction Internship is designed for those students who are in official leadership positions yet who have not acquired the appropriate Montana administrator certificate. Through a structured, guided format the student works closely with a fully endorsed local administrator and is mentored with one or more Educational Leadership Program faculty and/or regional mentor. The course can be taken for credit or no credit.
