Instructor I and 2 Certifications are available under this system for the following levels and speciality: Fire Instructor I and Fire Instructor 2.
Purpose The Instructor certification is intended to measure and attest to the competence of instructors who provide training services for fire service organizations.
Prerequisite Participation Fire Fighter 2 certification is required prior to testing for Instructor I.
Instructor I certification is required prior to testing for instructor 2.
Testing Conditions Testing facilities, apparatus, equipment, supplies, and support personnel are the responsibility of the candidate and his/her organization.
Instructor I Procedure Candidates for Instructor I Certification shall contact the Director and get a coach assigned to assist with the process.
The Candidate will complete the Certification Test Documentation Booklet for Instructor I with 100% accuracy.
Candidates will coach two different crews, using prepared materials. The crews must not have the skills being trained prior to the training. The prepared materials will include a minimum of one tactic from the Fire Fighter I or 2 program or, with FSTS approval, from other systems.
The fire fighters on the crews will meet the Performance Standards for the tactic in which they were instructed. If the crew fails to meet the standard due to reasons beyond the control of the instructor candidate, and the proper coaching skills were demonstrated, the Director may choose to accept that demonstration of skills for certification.
The Instructor I Candidate*s performance will be evaluated by FSTS staff.
The evaluation of the Candidate*s performance must rate all satisfactory or above on all quality indicators.
The Fire Services Training School will certify Instructor I candidates who successfully complete the model coaching and open resource evaluation.
Note: There is no requirement that the Certification Test Documentation Booklet be completed in any specific order.
Instructor 2 Procedure Candidates for Instructor 2 Certification shall contact the Director and get a coach assigned to assist with the process, and reach agreement on a topic.
The Candidate will complete the Certification Test Documentation Booklet for Instructor 2 with I 00% accuracy.
Submit an original instructional package, including at least one tactic with evaluation instrument.
The method of instruction shall be in context, using the coaching methodology.
The format of the package shall be consistent with that in use in the current Fire Fighter I package.
The Candidate will provide and the FSTS will approve, an instructional package plan prior to the candidate beginning development work on the package.
Present the above instructional package to a minimum of two different sets of learners, who do not have the skills taught in the tactic, resulting in the participants meeting or exceeding the identified performance standards for the tactic.
The presentations will take place after the instructional package has been approved by the FSTS.
The Instructor 2 Candidate's performance will be evaluated by a certification evaluator designated by the Fire Training School.
The evaluation of the Candidate's performance must rate all satisfactory or above on all quality indicators.
Successfully complete the Instructor 2 Certification Open Resource Evaluation with 100% accuracy.
Instructor 2 Candidates will be certified for a period of 5 years.
Note: There is no requirement that the Certification Test Documentation Booklet be completed in any specific order.
