Powerful Tools for Caregivers

POWERFUL TOOLS FOR CAREGIVERS (PTC) is an educational program developed by Legacy Health System's Caregiver Services, that provides family caregivers with the skills and confidence to better care for themselves while caring for someone with a chronic illness. PTC consists of six 2-1/2 hour classes co-led by trained facilitators who employ a standardized curriculum.

In the six-week PTC class, caregivers learn how to:

Utilize community resources
Better manage stress
Communicate effectively with friends, family & healthcare providers
Cope with difficult emotions
Take better steps to care for themselves

Class leaders are Julie Sonderegger and Starla Robinson. Mineral County: Ocotober 4-November 15 (no class October 25), Thursday afternoons, 1:30-3:00pm, at the Mineral Community Hospital Conference Room in Superior. Class is free. Class size is limited; please register one week prior to first class date. Transportation and respite care are provided upon request for class participants. Register by calling 883-7284 or 1-800-266-4183. Missoula: October 9-November 13, Tuesday afternoons, 2-3:30pm, at Missoula Aging Services, 337 Stephens Ave. Pre-registration is required. POWERFUL TOOLS FOR CAREGIVERS CLASS LEADER TRAINING: Becoming a Class Leader--Class Leaders are trained by Master Trainers during a 2-1/2 day intensive seminar. Over 1000 Class Leaders in 23 states have been trained to deliver PTC in community-based settings. Becoming a Master Trainer--Master Trainers have completed the Class Leader Training and have taught the class at least twice. To become a Master Trainer, Class Leaders participate in an on-line or telephone conference-call training.
