Non-Degree Graduate Dietetic Internship

The Department of Health and Human Development at Montana State University (MSU) offers a non-degree graduate dietetic internship. The Montana Dietetic Internship (MDI) has the Dietetic Internship Candidacy for Accreditation Status from ACEND (Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics).  Interns typically began the first full week of August and graduate by the first week of June. The MDI program participates in the spring computer matching period for dietetic internship appointments.   For more information about the April match follow the link above titled, “Application Procedures."

MDI integrates experiences in clinical and community nutrition, foodservice management, and a concentration in sustainable food systems to provide a unique and progressive supervised dietetic practice experience to future registered dietitians. The MDI Program meets the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics Competencies for preparing knowledgeable professionals in the practice of dietetics. The MDI Program activities include 1,295 hours of supervised practice in various clinical and non-clinical settings, a 28 week on-line didactic course to support supervised practice learning, and 12 non-degree graduate credits. In addition to completing practice experiences at Montana State University (MSU)-Bozeman, interns will be assigned to one of five geographic areas in the state of Montana to fulfill the majority of their required supervised practice hours. The areas are:  Billings, Great Falls, Helena, Kalispell, and Missoula. Initially, MDI interns complete three weeks of program orientation/professional development in Bozeman beginning in August and then progress to supervised practice as noted above through May.  The final week of the internship includes wrap-up activities, RD exam preparation, and a graduation celebration. Interns graduating from this program will earn a verification statement that allows them to sit for the registration exam to become a Registered Dietitian and 12 graduate credits.
