Information Technology Support Specialist (ITSS)

Training and Certification Class

The IT Explosion
What began with a jolt in 1981, and has been expanding constantly for the last 26 years? It's the explosion of desktop information technology! As more and more of our work becomes centered on desktop computers, the support needs we face as PC users have come to exceed any one organization's ability to meet them. ITC has found a new way of helping campus offices become more self-sufficient in maintaining high-quality local computing, networking, and telephone environments. We call it the Information Technology Support Specialist Training and Certification Program. Expanding on the role of the departmental telephone coordinator, this program will train departmental staff to fill Information Technology Support Specialist roles at a basic level. These sets of responsibilities are centered around five areas of technology: personal computer operating systems and hardware, data networking, telephone coordination, and general technology issues.

The Benefits
Individuals who become certified as Information Technology Support Specialists will be better able to apply technology to their own work and to enable others in their departments to do more with technology. They will reduce the number of expensive service calls their departments make to ITC and other technology support organizations. They will gain the skills to act in a liaison role between their departments and ITC and will benefit from membership in MSU technology user groups.

The Opportunity
Jan. 29th – Feb. 2nd, 2007; ITC will be offering a training session for IT Support Specialist. The training is lab oriented and includes much hands-on work. You must register to attend. Please register on the web at : http://www2.montana.edu/itcseminars/ or call 994-5096. The registration deadline is Jan. 16th , 2007.

Certification
An examination will be conducted for each section of the class. To become certified you must pass the exam with a score of 80% or better. Those who do not pass the exam will have two opportunities to retest. There will be an additional fee for retesting.

The Fee
The total cost of the training is $345.00. This includes 28 hours of instruction, a workbook, a certificate upon passing the exam, and miscellaneous course materials.
