Dial Tone and Network Activations at MSU
We can provide dial tone at any CAT 5 or 6 jack. Please speak with your Telephone Coordinator to
complete the
Telephone & Network Service Request form. The activation charge is $50. There is also a line
charge fee of $8.00 each month for each line. Be sure to include the
class of service you would like enabled when you complete the form.
Should you need a jack installed, please complete the
Telephone & Network
Service Request form and Cindy Tirrell, our Communication Wiring Program Coordinator, will visit your office to
prepare an estimate for you. You may email Cindy at
ctirrell@montana.edu or call her at Extension 2882.
Should you also need network activated, please add that to the work request. All jacks,
unless otherwise specified, are set up with a voice insert in the top port and a data insert
in the bottom port. We can change out the inserts to accommodate dual voice, dual data, data on the
top and bottom, etc. Network activations cost $135 and it includes the data port, patch cables, inserts, and labor.
The maximum length on the patch cable from the jack to the computer is 10 feet; in
some instances we can use 14 feet. If additional length is needed, please talk to Cindy about solutions.
Network activations are completed Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 1-3 PM, unless it is part of
an ongoing project or otherwise requested.
***Requests for voice or data activation on an existing jack should be submitted 10 days in advance
and 20 days in advance should wiring or cabling be required. We cannot guarantee a work request will
be done by date requested if it is not sent to us in advance.
